Street lamp, stained glass, lightbulb, stainless steel
Status
not on displayThe Korean artist Ju Young Kim developed an interest in states of transition through her intercontinental travels and her stays in liminal spaces such as train stations and airports. This street lamp, too, symbolizes such in-between spaces. However, Kim replaces its light fixture with a stained-glass element reminiscent of French Art Nouveau around 1900. This movement was critical of industrial mass production and sought to unite technology with artistic design. The artist draws on this tension by combining technical elements with traditional craftsmanship.
