About the workNuremberg was a centre for the production of armour until the seventeenth century. This “lightweight armour” was commonly worn by soldiers on horseback. Due to changes in warfare, this type of half-plate armour was manufactured and exported in large quantities from the sixteenth century onwards. The helmet and leg plates were reworked at a later date, presumably due to damage or loss. A special feature of this suit is the heart motif, which served as decoration and personalisation.
