About the workGrete Schick captures this little girl mid-hop. She looks upwards cheekily, as if she were playing with someone. This makes the recorded moment seem spontaneous and intimate. Blockily carved representations of everyday life like this are typical of the sculptor, who studied at the Folkwang School in Essen in the 1920s. She belonged to the first generation of women in Germany who were able to complete their academic training as sculptors without restrictions due to their gender.
