About the workDeserted yet well lit: you rarely see a cinema like this. Architectural photographs are the main focus of Karl Hugo Schmölz’s oeuvre. He realised interior and exterior views with unparalleled precision, mostly on behalf of renowned architects in Cologne and the Rhineland. Schmölz learned how to use a camera from his father, also an architectural photographer, and later took over his studio. In the 1960s, he passed on his knowledge to the Düsseldorf artist Candida Höfer, who trained under him.
