on display, room 026 About the workContrasts characterise the work of Ernst Schieron, about whose life and work little is known. His visual language and choice of motifs are characterised both by the experimental curiosity of the 1920s and by propagandistic scenes following Adolf Hitler's rise to power. In these images Schieron documented a cruise on Lake Constance organised by the Nazi organisation "Kraft durch Freude" (Strength through Joy). Only those Germans who fit into the Nazi world view were allowed on the trip, which had the aim to bind participants to the regime՚s ideological programme.
