Untitled (Portrait of two Siblings), ca. 1850
Daguerreotype, coloured
Image dimensions8,2 × 7 cm
About the workThere are several indications that the people in this image are two sisters. In order for both of them to fit into the photograph, they have had to squeeze in close together. Due to their identical clothing, their intertwined arms are only noticeable at a second glance. The result is an intimate portrait that depicts the two young women as a single unit, yet allows their individual characteristics to emerge. The small-format daguerreotype reflects the sisters’ facial expressions with impressive sharpness.
