About the workIn May 1884, the “Baltischer Centralverein für Thierzucht und Thierschutz” (Baltic Central Association for Animal Breeding and Protection) held a model exhibition in Greifswald with different sections for chickens, fattened poultry, pigeons, songbirds and ornamental birds, canaries, rabbits, dogs, waterfowl and fish. Caspar Scheuren designed the certificate that was awarded to the winners of the individual show categories. He placed animals from every section next to and below the title block of the document, which is crowned by the red griffin, the heraldic animal of the city of Greifswald.
