About the workIs the visible world real or an illusion? This is a question that people keep grappling with in the face of the mounting deluge of digital images. In Plato’s allegory, people are prisoners in a cave. Instead of real things, they only see the shadows of them cast on the cave wall. The Düsseldorf artist Mischa Kuball turns this cave into a space of aesthetic experience and draws the viewers into a play of visuals consisting of light, shadow and reflections. Unlike Plato, this is not about true knowledge, but about developing a sense of our own perception.
