About the workDoris Ophorst’s coffee grinder appears flat and fragmented into geometrically shaped individual parts. However, the function of this abstracted grinder remains a mystery. For a long time, the painting remained undiscovered in the Kunstpalast depot. The artist’s career only became known with the new presentation of the collection in 2023. The painting was created during Ophorst’s time as a student at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. The Wuppertal-born artist attended Bruno Goller’s class together with Konrad Klapheck. Although she was active as an artist throughout her life, her work received little attention.
