About the workLuise and Friederike of Prussia – the portrayal of these two princesses by Berlin sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow made art history. Created between 1795 and 1797, the sculpture was the first to show female figures of noble rank in natural poses. Hans-Peter Feldmann has taken up the iconic figure group, and has had a plaster copy painted. It is brought closer to everyday life as the colour strips the sculpture of its classical severity. Feldmann’s version draws one’s attention to the question of what is perceived as beautiful or significant.
