on display, room 018.4 About the workThis simple form with lattice design is reminiscent of an abstract fruit basket. The architect and designer Josef Hoffmann created this bowl during his time as director of the Wiener Werkstätten (Vienna Workshops), which aimed to produce highly functional objects in large quantities. Despite the use of industrially prefabricated materials, these expectations were not met. The items were too unattractive for general tastes. The workshops were dissolved due to economic losses in 1932.
