About the workThis water jug is characterised by a typified design that is as simple as it is functional. In 1907, the artist, architect and designer Richard Riemerschmid was one of the co-founders of the Deutscher Werkbund (German Association of Craftsmen), an economic and cultural association of artists, architects and entrepreneurs. Using new standards of quality, their aim was to modernise the aesthetic appearance of industrially manufactured everyday objects, which until then had predominantly been copied from older handcrafted models.
