About the workIn Wilhelm Morgner's paintings, the boundaries between realistic representation and ist playful simplification are blurred. Lines flow and colours spill across the canvas, drawing the viewer into the subject. Without shadows or perspective, depth in Morgner's work is created solely through the use of contrasting colours. Born in Soest in 1891, the artist favoured rural subjects, such as workers in the fields. Despite his early death during the First World War, Morgner left behind a large body of work. Even during the war he did not give up his artistic endeavours.
