Curtain – Cardinal Red, 2007
Oil on canvas
(H x W)170 × 240 cm
About the workIn Ioan Iacob’s art, the motif serves exclusively as a presentational surface for colour. Using the curtain, which he blurs almost beyond recognition, he explores the hue variations in their complexity. The black primer and subsequent overpainting create a luminous composition that shows his interest in atmospheric depictions. From 1977 to 1984, the Romanian-born artist studied under Gotthard Graubner at the Düsseldorf Art Academy who also used colour as his primary artistic tool.
