About the workConceptual artist Christopher Williams uses photography to explore aesthetic conventions and the power of contemporary images. This work references advertising photographs from the 1950s. The chosen framing is striking, hiding as much as it reveals. Contrasts – black and white, man and woman – catch the eye. The cold, objective examination of people, products and measurements raises questions about the relationship between consumption and self-portrayal.
