About the workAt more than three millimetres, the walls of this glass are remarkably thick. The colour is typical of “forest glass”, which was produced by small travelling glassworks in the forests of Central Europe. By pinching into the still hot, densely set prunts, they become vaguely reminiscent of animal heads. The overall finish is very crude, possibly in response to the delicate glass art of Venice. The shape and the handle are typical features of a cup known as a “Scheuer”, a drinking vessel no longer in use today.
