on display, room G 10 About the workBack to nature! The faun, a hybrid figure from the ancient world of the gods, embodies originality. He is a friendly and joyful being, but also impulsive and unpredictable. This faun’s head is made of fused coloured “pâte de verre” (“glass paste”), with which the engineer and glass industrialist Georges Despret sought to imitate the semi-precious stone jade. This unique piece of craftsmanship belongs to a group of artistic works to which Despret devoted himself alongside his mainstay: his glass factory in Jeumont, Belgium, which was one of the leading companies for sheet glass at the time.
