About the workA woman, tattooed with fine patterns, poses casually. The vase in the foreground reflects the shapes of her body. The phenomenon of the "tattooed lady", evoked in the title of the work, refers to women who presented their tattooed skin in variety theatre shows around 1900. The Cologne painter Gottfried Brockmann studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1926 to 1928 and was a member of the artists’ associations Rheinische Sezession (Rhenish Secession) and Das Junge Rheinland (The Young Rhineland).
