About the workThe Düsseldorf painter Fritz von Wille was so enthusiastic about the Eifel that he travelled there many times and later acquired Kerpen Castle as a second home. He created numerous works with motifs from the region, which earned him the nickname "Eifel painter". In this work, he captured the vastness of the landscape with an atmospheric interplay of light and clouds. He particularly emphasised the golden yellow flowers of the broom bush, which is widespread there. Broom grows in rough locations such as rocks or poor meadows and is also known in German as "Eifelgold" (Eifel Gold) because of its extraordinary colour.
