Influenced by childhood memories of his mother’s hatter’s shop and its decoration, the artist developed a still-life-like style of painting. He simplified buildings, everyday objects and figures to their essential elements and depicted them in unusual contexts – similar to a shop window. Goller taught at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1949. In the early years, he focused so much on his teaching that he only produced this single painting in 1950.
