About the workFor many people, understanding their inner self becomes their mission in life – comprehending the inner lives of other people often seems like an unsolvable riddle. In his “Standing Female Figure”, Wilhelm Lehmbruck successfully revealed the unfathomable essence of a person. His first life-size female figure appears introverted and lost in reverie. Created in Paris in 1910, Lehmbruck presented it that same year at the Autumn Salon, one of the most important exhibition venues of the time, where it was very positively received. He produced this version in cast stone in 1911.
