About the workThis lamp could be placed on its small base in order to fill it with oil. There were various supports for the wick that floated on the surface, and the lamp itself was hung from the ceiling by its eyelets. Its structure corresponds to the large “mosque lamps” created about 300 years later, which shows the longevity of this type of lighting. These smaller lamps are not rare, but the Düsseldorf example stands out due to its multicoloured eyelets.
