About the workThe vase is modeled after a rosewater bottle from the Middle East. Since ancient times, fragrant essences have been used there for cleansing and perfuming. The clear design of thick-walled, opaque glass is also reminiscent of glazed ceramics from East Asia. New types of glass such as this, developed for Tiffany by technologist Arthur J. Nash, contributed significantly to the company's success in the early 20th century. Nash's influential role went unnoticed for a long time and was only recognized again in the early 2000s.
