About the workAs chronicled in the Bible, John the Seer received a vision of God’s plan for the destruction and restoration of the world. This print depicts how seven angels unleash evils onto the world with their trumpets. Fire burns the land, locusts attack the fields and darkness descends. The Nuremberg artist Albrecht Dürer created a sequence of images for a new edition of the text, known as the "Book of Revelation" or the "Apocalypse of John". They are distinguished by a fineness of line that was hitherto unprecedented in the medium of woodcut.
