not on displayWhile the breastfeeding rate was almost 100% during the Second World War, the use of bottles increased afterwards due to the industrial production of low-risk artificial infant milk. The design was optimised such that wide-necked bottles made of Jena glass, for instance, were widely used for better cleaning. At the end of the 20th century, the imitation of the nipple’s texture on the bottle’s sucker contributed to a drinking experience that aimed to come as close as possible to breastfeeding. Handles were additionally developed to encourage the child to drink independently.
