About the workAs a trained commercial designer, Fritz Köthe knew what captures people’s attention. From the 1960s onwards, the Berlin artist painted pictures in which car and engine parts play a central role. In this image, he placed centre stage the front-wheel drive of the Ford Taunus 12M – shiny and as good as new. As the first production car with this type of drive, the model offered more space in the interior and was a sales success thanks to its robustness. Köthe catched the technical perfection down to the smallest detail, making the car a symbol of progress and mobility.
