on display, room G 03 About the workBritish sculptor Tony Cragg, who is based in Wuppertal, has been driven by his interest in materials since the beginning of his career. He collects all sorts of things, including jars, which he has taken out of everyday use and placed in new contexts. His work is characterised by an examination of industrially manufactured products – not for their beauty, but on the contrary: to address the persistent impoverishment of the world’s diversity of forms. The artist attributes this to industry's desire to produce everything as cheaply as possible.
