About the work“The Nuremberg Chronicle” (in German referred to as the “Schedelsche Weltchronik” in honour of its editor Hartmann Schedel) charts the history of the world from its genesis to the year 1493. The fact that it contains almost 2,000 illustrations made it a significant work even at the time of its creation. Working under the direction of the Nuremberg painter Michael Wolgemut, various artists were involved in the production of the images: draughtsmen, block cutters, printers and finally colourists, who added colour to the woodcuts. This print illustrates the order of the Holy Roman Empire. It depicts the seven prince-electors who had the privilege of electing the emperor and were representatives of the imperial estates.
