About the workIn his multimedia works, Harry Hachmeister deals with moments of transformation – placing the adaptability of one’s own body at the centre. Taking the self-portrait as a starting point, he negotiates (gender) identities and their attributions. The drawing "Embracing Oneself" is exemplary of his approach to dualities: it shows an intertwined figure – half human, half animal – that appears to be fighting an inner battle. At the same time, the posture conveys a conciliatory expression of self-acceptance.
