About the workKathrin Sonntag’s pictures challenge perception: ordinary things take on gigantic proportions in relation to their surroundings. A closer look reveals a difference in resolution between the foreground and background of the picture. The background turns out to be a photographic backdrop. And suddenly the perspective of the pictures seems questionable: are we looking at the scenery head-on or from above? With systematic thoroughness and playful lightness, Sonntag questions the promise of reality in photography.
