About the workThe work depicts the germination of a mung bean (vigna radiata) in five stages of ist development. She pays particular attention to the recurring changes of the plant that lead to larger structures with inconspicuously small changes. With her technique of flameworking glass, the artist stands in the tradition of botanical and zoological glass models made for university collections by Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka in Dresden ca. 1855–1938. Nataliya Vladychko studied art in Lviv, Ukraine, and in Belgium. She lives and works in Amsterdam.
