About the workThe picture looks strangely familiar. Although it is not immediately clear who or what exactly is being shown, it is reminiscent of press photos of state dignitaries. In her series “Suspicious Minds”, Viktoria Binschtok changes the scale and composition of such images: she shifts the focus from the statesmen to their bodyguards, whom she depicts almost life-size. These individuals risk their lives to protect public figures and are usually only casually or unintentionally captured by press photography. Binschtok reflects on the way this medium functions and creates awareness for that which is often left unnoticed.
