Its motifs shaped the consumer world and reflected developments in design and art. This plastic bag from discount supermarket Aldi Nord was one of the first designed by an artist. The Aldi brothers noticed the painter Günter Fruhtrunk at the documenta exhibition in Kassel in 1968; two years later, Theo Albrecht commissioned him to come up with a concept for this carrier bag. This was Fruhtrunk’s only bag design, but it became an instant classic.
