About the workThe work of the artist Andreas Langfeld shows public spaces in Düsseldorf and Cologne during the coronavirus pandemic, at a time when its outcome was still uncertain. Places that would normally enable encounters are marked by barriers and ground markings that enforce distance. The harsh flash makes the emptiness visible and creates a threatening atmosphere. Langfeld photographed during nightly walks and published the images each following morning on social media, where a dialogue with followers about the current situation began to unfold. What remains of a place where no encounters are possible? Where does community withdraw to?
