About the workDevised by Richard Schadewald, this telephone is often additionally known as the “Bauhaus telephone”, as the designer Marcel Breuer is credited with helping to create it. The device was developed for the flats of the “Neues Frankfurt” (New Frankfurt) housing programme, which was carried out between 1925 and 1930. In 1927, the Telephon Gesellschaft H. Fuld & Co. launched a competition for innovative telephone sets and this device emerged as the winner. This model was produced until the 1930s and then for another two decades in other variations.
