on display, room 005 About the workTwo-part writing cabinets such as this were often found in grand libraries. A writing surface can be pulled out by two handles from beneath the top section, and the rows of drawers hidden behind lockable doors were used to store documents and maps. Typical of the period are the protruding and receding curves of the top and bottom of the cabinet, which are also reminiscent of a building façade. The ivory and tortoiseshell inlays were characteristic of the Neubrandenburg workshops.
