1946 – 1969

After the experiences of the Second World War and the use of photography as a propaganda tool, as seen for example in the work of Leni Riefenstahl, the medium gained the reputation of being deceptive. The humanistic photography of Lisette Model and Henri Cartier-Bresson was centred on people going about their everyday lives. The 1960s marked the beginning of the use of colour in artistic photography.
