on display, room GAUL. Werke aus der Sammlung Kemp About the workPrints are preceded by meticulous planning: in this study, Winfred Gaul developed the colour scheme for four screen prints. He pursued this area of work on an equal footing with painting and drawing. Using paper samples he had stuck to the surface, he established the four colours: yellow, red, green and purple. He also sketched out the pictorial motifs I to IV. A handwritten table specifies the order in which the templates are to be used to print the individual layers of colour onto the sheet one after the other. Three of the works prepared here are on view in their finished form.
