About the workThe gold leaf behind the first letter on this sheet of music shines magnificently. Painted in gouache, the motifs represent tendrils and blossoms. This initial of the letter “B” is at the beginning of the line “Benedicta sit sancta trinitas” (“Blessed be the Holy Trinity”). The song is a Gregorian chant, a type of music that is still an element of Roman Catholic church services today. This page of music is likely from the hymnal of a monastery.
