About the workThis piece by Düsseldorf artist Martin Gerwers is not as easy to grasp as expected at first sight. Situated in the field of tension between sculpture and painting, it is characterised by its multiple perspectives. Depending on the viewing angle, a different interplay of colour surfaces emerges in the space. Sometimes the three-part object appears compact and closed, sometimes open and balanced. Such combinations of coloured surfaces, which challenge our perception, run like a common thread through Gerwers’ sculptural and painterly work.
