About the workA familiar sight even 100 years ago: an armpit completely free of hair. The half-naked body was staged by Yva, one of the first and most successful women in portrait and fashion photography. Hair removal techniques and methods have been around since ancient times. Around 1900, the cosmetics industry encouraged the rapid spread of highly questionable and harmful products. Mixtures of aggressive and toxic substances not only broke down the hair structure but also corroded the skin. Depilatory creams with corrosive effects are still on the market today.
