About the workContrasts characterise the work of Ernst Schieron, about whose life and work little is known. He was a watchmaker by trade and also devoted himself to photography with playful ambition. His visual language and choice of motifs are characterised both by the experimental curiosity of the 1920s and by propagandistic scenes following Adolf Hitler's rise to power. Schieron captured political rallies of the NSDAP in documentary form and tried out stylistic devices of the New Vision photography movement by using the motif of nationalist torchlight marches, which in his pictures become abstract traces of light through long exposure.
