About the workAs a result of being enlarged several times, the plants in Karl Blossfeldt’s photographs look like finely detailed sculptures. Blossfeldt used his pictures as study materials for “Modelling from Living Plants”, the subject he taught at the teaching institute of the Museum of Applied Arts in Berlin. These basic natural forms were intended to inspire design in the fields of architecture, art and craft. Blossfeldt’s images had a lasting impact on the history of photography. They show how changes in scale influence the aesthetic effect and encourage comparative viewing.
