About the workPhotography is able to depict things that are invisible to the naked eye. The medium can enhance human vision. Since the second half of the nineteenth century, photographic techniques have been used in astronomy to explore the universe and its celestial bodies. Thanks to new processes and increasingly light-sensitive photographic emulsions, which coated the film material, observations could be recorded through telescopes. Hours-long exposures opened up the possibility of studying dimmer stars in space in greater detail.
