About the workGroundbreaking at the time it was constructed, the Kentucky and Indiana Bridge was commissioned in 1886. The structure connected the cities of Louisville and New Albany, between which the Ohio River flows. The struts of the truss bridge divide the pictorial space into abstract planes, while the small figures at the edge of the railway tracks indicate that this modern monument was made by human hands. Printed by Lemercier & Co. in Paris using the collotype technique, this image was featured in a publication about engineering projects in North America. The photographer is unknown.
