About the workWhen entering a church, Catholic Christians dip their fingers in holy water before making the sign of the cross over their bodies. This consecrated water, which has been blessed by a priest, may also be used in private devotions. In eighteenth-century Spain, ceramic basins for holy water were common; glass ones were rarer. Those made of glass were not only produced in Spain, but also notably in Bohemia. There was a lively trade with Spain, which shipped Bohemian glassware as far as Latin America.
