About the workThe realism of this sculpture is contradicted by its dull, grey colouring. The work is dominated by an almost supernatural atmosphere and forces the viewer to reconsider the relationship between reality and representation. In addition, the object suggests the motif of resting or sleeping. Hans Op de Beeck himself wrote that this sleeping child is “touchingly vulnerable, present and yet absent”: “Her soul is in a parallel world, a place of mystery, silently suspended.”
