About the workLeo Poeten completed his painting studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in the 1920s. Afterwards, he concentrated on landscapes and military portraits. He had served as a soldier in the First World War and forged close relationships within the military. This picture of a young woman was acquired in 1937 as part of the Düsseldorf exhibition “Schaffendes Volk” (Productive People). This was a propaganda presentation of works of art that were approved by the National Socialists.
