About the workThis vase has it all. It consists of wafer-thin glass skins, the overlapping of which creates a special colour effect. There are probably six layers: ametista, verde, lattimo, rosso, lattimo and pagliesco—violet, green, milky, red, milky, straw-coloured. The outermost layer, pagliesco, is a transparent glass with a slightly yellowish tint. It protects the gold leaf layer underneath, which tore into flakes when the vessel was blown out. This coloured glass technique was introduced at the Venini glassworks in collaboration with the Milanese architect and designer Tommaso Buzzi.
