About the workThe glassworks achieved its greatest artistic recognition with wild mixtures of colours and patterns. Dino Martens, its creator, had remained unsuccessful as a freelance, erratic artist. Out of necessity, he accepted his brother-in-law Aureliano Toso’s offer to contribute designs for glass in 1940. With his experimental contributions, he characterised the artistic awakening of Murano’s glass art after the Second World War. This vase is described in a model drawing as a “fiaschetta sferica a mace petoni tipo oriente”, “spherical vial with brightly coloured spots of the Oriental type”.
